Rangers are this weekend. Closed pre alpha starts next weekend and continues for 6-8 weeks
Another interesting observation we learned. People thought the AK outperformed the M4 in CQB. Now, it is true it does more damage, but the M4 has a higher rate of fire, which in most games is considered preferable and superior.
Now, for CPA launch, the AK74 will be back to it's normal values of a 5.45 round. The M4s RoF will increase as well, but I have a theory that one of the main reasons the AK is a lot more effective at close range at the moment, is the ease of use of the sights. I am willing to bet, that even with the RoF increase on the M4 and the damage reduced on the AK, the AK is still going to outperform (perception) the M4.
Currently, our Aimpoint is subpar, (btw, the M68 series Aimpoint IRL sucks as well), M4/M16 family iron sights are not that great in-game or reality for close range. The AK is terrible at range, as intended in our game, but one of the reasons it is terrible at range is also the reason why it is great close up, the sights barely obstruct your view.
Ultimately, it comes down to asymmetry. Yes, AK family will hurt close up, Insurgents without optics WILL be formidable at close range. If the US can manage to keep them far, then the US will naturally have the advantage. Just keep that in mind for down the road, they aren't meant to be the same because they are not the same.
